I traveled a lot between parents when I was younger, so it feels like I've always known the US timezones, they're second nature. I am often reminded that this isn't second nature to everyone when friends from 'back East' repeatedly ask me, "what time is it in Alaska?" I usually just respond with, "four hours behind you!"

The US recognizes SIX (6) Timezones: East to West they are Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii. The Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) alters slightly (by one hour) during Daylight Savings Time (DST), and not all states recognize/use DST, but for Standard Time, these zones in the same order are: GMT -5, GMT -6, GMT -7, GMT -8, GMT -9, GMT -10. What it's like to work at the Wikimedia Foundation. I just had a meeting spanning four of these time zones. This is why meetings are often specified in UTC.

Pacific = Foundation staff (SF, Portland)

Eastern = Contractor (NY)

Amsterdam = Lead ops person, various contractors (for some reason, Dutch people are really prominent in this project)

Athens = Another ops person

Colombo, Sri Lanka = Testers

Melbourne & Sydney = Lead architect, contractors

Fernando de Noronha ou Fernão de Noronha é um arquipélago brasileiro pertencente ao Estado de Pernambuco, formado por 21 ilhas e ilhotas, ocupando uma área de 26 km², situado no Oceano Atlântico, a leste do estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Constitui um distrito do estado de Pernambuco desde 1988, quando deixou de ser um território federal cuja sigla era FN. É gerida por um administrador-geral designado pelo governo do estado. A ilha principal tem 17 km² e fica a 545 km de Recife, capital de Pernambuco, a 360 km de Natal, capital do Rio Grande do Norte, a 830Km de Fortaleza, capital do Ceará, e a 1220 Km de Salvador, capital da Bahia

Após uma campanha liderada pelo ambientalista gaúcho José Truda Palazzo Jr., em 1988 a maior parte do arquipélago foi declarada Parque Nacional, com cerca de 8 km², para a proteção das espécies endêmicas lá existentes e da área de concentração dos golfinhos rotadores (Stenella longirostris) que lá se reúnem diariamente na Baía dos Golfinhos - o lugar de observação mais regular da espécie em todo o planeta.

Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, part of the State of Pernambuco, around 354 km offshore from the Brazilian coast. Its area is 18.4 km², its population 2,051 (2000). The area is a special municipality (distrito estatal) of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Its timezone is UTC−2h. The position is 03°54′S, 32°25′W.

The islands of this archipelago are the visible parts of a range of submerged mountains. Consisting of 21 islands, islets and rocks of volcanic origin, the main island has an area of 18 km², being 10 km long and 3.5 km at its maximum width. The base of this enormous volcanic formation is 756 m below the surface. The main island, from which the group gets its name, makes up 91% of the total area; the islands of Rata, Sela Gineta, Cabeluda and São Jose, together with the islets of Leão and Viúva make up the rest.
